There are some useful psychological tricks that can influence our communication and make our life simpler in some way.
1. To find out if a person likes you, choose one word that they say and every time it is said, smile or nod your head. If a person likes you, they will unconsciously start using that word all the time.
2. If you want people to start taking your words seriously, tell them that you learned this from your father or mother because people have an ingrained belief in the words spoken by their parents.
3. If you want people to agree with you, do not lose eye contact with your interlocutor and nod your head because that way it will look like you are telling the truth. In addition, people tend to imitate some social pattern.
4. Have you ever wished that the tram or bus was not overcrowded in the morning? To get people to move out of your way and make room for you, look straight ahead in the direction you’re going and you’ll see people move out of the way. This trick is very easy to explain because there is a crowd of people following the movements of other people and unconsciously moving towards the one who is walking towards them so that there is no ‘collision’.
5. When you find that a song is stuck in your head, try to think about its ending. According to the Zeigarnik effect, the brain remembers things that are not completed, so by thinking about its end, it will be easier to stop humming one and the same melody.
6. If you want your children to start eating certain vegetables, ask them how much broccoli or tomatoes they want, and if they don’t want to eat them at all. Children will have the feeling that they made the decision themselves and will eat the vegetables you offer them. The same trick can be used in different situations.
7. Do you have the feeling that someone is following you? Turn around and yawn. If the person is really following you and watching you, they will yawn too because we all know how contagious yawning is.
8. If you want to get someone to carry your heavy boxes or bags, hold them out but don’t stop talking while doing so. Most people will not even notice that something is being handed to them and will take it in their hands.
9. Before shaking someone’s hand, try to warm your hands because that way you will make a friendly impression.
10. Whenever someone is talking to you rephrase their sentence and say it to them because it will make them think you are a great listener. Of course, don’t overdo it.
11. If you want someone to help you start your sentence like this: “I really need your help…” People hate guilt and the way you ask for help will make them unable to turn you down.
12. When you don’t like a person, ask them to lend you a pen or something. People tend not to help those they don’t like, and the service is so small that the one who “hates” you won’t be able to refuse your request, writes Bright Side.
