Aristotle once said that happiness is the meaning and purpose of life, the goal and end of human existence. Being happy, satisfied and living a fulfilled life is the desire of every individual, and the search for happiness is one of the most common human pursuits – in many cases, an unattainable goal. Fortunately for us, the ‘experience of happiness’ has many nuances, which we call joy, excitement, gratitude, pride, optimism, humor, contentment and love.
Joy
It is a very simple form of happiness that we all understand. The feeling of joy comes primarily from focusing on the present moment and realizing what we have in it. This feeling is often fleeting because it comes rather suddenly, but also quickly disappears if we want to analyze it too much. We can find joy in many things, especially if we know how to see them from the right perspective. This is precisely why we can say that this emotion is largely dependent on our worldview. We feel it most easily when we are engaged in things in which we feel perfection.
Pride
Pride is a short-lived form of happiness that can be self-directed or directed at others. Although self-indulgent pride is negative, feelings of pride in one’s own accomplishments can be a form of gratitude turned inward. We can be proud of our work, family, home, ourselves, in short, anything that is part of us. A healthy sense of pride can be cultivated by keeping a daily or weekly record of personal accomplishments in a gratitude journal and keeping a list of victories. This does not mean that our achievements make us better than others, but that they make us a better version of ourselves.
Enthusiasm
Although it can last longer than joy, this feeling is very fleeting. However, it can also be a kind of motivational factor – e.g. the excitement of a new job can motivate us to work harder; the excitement of a new partner encourages us to put more effort into solving problems; the excitement of the new title can help us get over the jitters before the performance. Telling ourselves that we are excited instead of anxious or nervous helps channel negative energy into more constructive action.Enthusiasm can also prolong the positive feelings we experience during an activity. It is important to follow new challenges, add to your wish list and indulge in excitement when something new is in store for us.
Humor
Humor is one of the easily recognizable forms of happiness. Laughter, which improves our mood, simply cannot be denied. Even when we are not feeling our best and are overcome by pessimism and bad mood, humor can bring us back to more positive feelings. Funny movies or memories, jokes can bring us short bursts of joy no matter how we feel. In this light, the saying that laughter is the best medicine applies.
Gratitude
Gratitude is an important form of happiness, but it can quickly disappear if we don’t actively and consciously focus on it. Research shows that grateful people are happier and healthier than those who take things for granted. Moreover, gratitude is very easy to internalize and experience over and over again. We can even use gratitude journaling and meditation, or simply tell people repeatedly that we appreciate them. Cultivating feelings of gratitude helps dispel negative feelings of sadness, anger, fear. If we repeatedly remind ourselves of what we have in life, we will also be more grateful.
Optimism
When we believe that good things await us in life, we feel optimistic. Many studies link optimism with better results and greater success in life. Optimists know how to focus on new opportunities and often experience pride and gratitude. They are grateful for all the opportunities that come their way in life, and at the same time, they are proud that they know how to take advantage of them. They firmly believe in themselves, which is why it is easier for them to achieve their goals. Their virtue is also that they do not attach too much importance to possible failures and falls. Optimism is often a person’s personal attitude and way of acting, so it is less fleeting than other forms of happiness.
Satisfaction/Fulfillment
Contentment really means inner contentment; for example, when we achieve our life goals, we feel fulfilled. Those who are content are less frustrated by life’s shortcomings and are happier with what they have. Humans often strive for a sense of contentment, which goes hand in hand with a sense of gratitude. As already mentioned with the other forms of happiness, it is important in life to focus on the things that mean a lot to us. When we feel fulfilled and satisfied, we feel a whole spectrum of positive feelings. As already mentioned with the other forms of happiness, it is important in life to focus on the things that mean a lot to us. When we feel fulfilled and satisfied, we feel a whole spectrum of positive feelings. This type of happiness is deep and can be spiritual. When we achieve our true purpose in life, contentment becomes the default state.
Love
Some also say that love and happiness are intertwined concepts; love is an endless source of happiness, and happiness can also be a form of love. But we need both in life. We often come across claims that true love is hard to find, but in reality love is found all around us. Family, friends, partner, even pets can be an endless source of love.Focusing on relationship skills, spending time with loved ones and other forms of nurturing relationships helps us maintain a happy and contented life. When you know that you are loved and that you love others, few things can take away your happiness.
